Podcasts are a powerful tool to market your books, connect with fellow writers, and engage with your readers.
Right now, podcasts are hot, and you can start one without breaking the bank on expensive equipment.
Once your podcast is recorded and uploaded, it’s always available. Even better, it can be downloaded and shared.
So, how do you get started?
1. Decide what you want your show to be about. Do you want to market your books? Or talk about publishing industry news? It’s entirely up to you.
2. Do you want to have guests or will you talk about the topics yourself? Keep in mind that talking over a period of time can get tiring. So if you won’t have guests, have some sort of outline to help you stay on track–and give you a format to follow.
3. What’s the frequency? Will you be doing your show daily, weekly, monthly or what? To build an audience, you should be prepared to broadcast at least once a week.
You don’t have to invest in expensive equipment when starting out. But you do need a plan. There are a lot of helpful tools you can use these days, so it’s much easier to get started than it’s been.
Several months ago I presented a workshop for authors about how to start a podcast. It was so well received that I added that information to a 28-page PDF workbook, designed specifically for authors (and creatives).
This comprehensive guide features interactive fields where you can jot down notes and map out your podcast planning process.
The Podcasting for Authors course includes:
Cost-Effective Strategies: Discover low-cost (or no-cost) ways to start a podcast, making it accessible for any budget.
Author Branding: Understand how adding a podcast can enhance your author brand and create a stronger connection with your readers.
Planning Tools: Utilize fillable pages to meticulously plan your podcast, covering every detail from topics to episode structure.
